“But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.”—Numbers 15:30
This verse speaks of a serious matter, presumptuous sin. But what is presumptuous sin or what does it mean to act presumptuously?
Webster’s 1828 dictionary of the American English Language defines Presumptuous, as: Willful; arrogant, done with bold design, rash confidence or in violation of known duty; as a presumptuous sin.
The usage of the word “presumptuously” in this verse means: with an high hand, That is, bold, daring, deliberate acts of transgression against the fullest evidence, and in despite of the Divine authority. Such conduct “reproacheth the Lord,” as if his commands were needless, unreasonable, and inimical to the happiness of man; his favour were not desirable, or his wrath not to be feared. In short, as if it were more advantageous to rebel against him than to serve him. Such acts admitted of no atonement. The person was condemned to bear his own iniquity, and to be cut off.
In today’s world presumptuous sin is everywhere. It is not rare, hidden or obscure in any manner, but is “in your face”–the very definition of presumptuous!
Can you see or recognize the presumptuous sin among us in the community or area you live? Because of the blinders, “tolerance” and ignorance today many cannot even recognize the violation of God’s Word in our society. But, that doesn’t change the fact that there is much presumptuous sin, bold, willful and arrogant sin, everywhere we turn.
Unfortunately, the organized church, once a bastion of truth has today quite often “tolerated” blatant sin due in part to antiChrist clergy entering the pulpit from antiChrist seminaries. What?! The enemies of the church and Christ long ago saw the best way to remove the opposition of the church was to infiltrate it and destroy it from within. I think that has happened in a great part through watering down of Biblical doctrines and tolerance of sin.
The sad part is the ultimate penalty for transgression of the Word of God presumptuously. The very next verse describes that:
Numbers 15:31 Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.
In other words, there is no longer any sacrifice available for sin–his iniquity shall be upon him–he shall be utterly cut off!
The true church will continue as the church. They will recognize and eschew evil, or even the appearance of evil. They will love one another while they help their brethren turn from any iniquity or sin so that the church will be pure and holy before the LORD as a bride before her husband.
Psalms 11:3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?
The foundations of a nation and country are destroyed by ignorance and allowance of sin. Ignorance comes because the truth of the Bible is not preached from the pulpit or at home or school from an early age or people have chosen to ignore and reject truth preached. I’ve heard people say things like, “Baby can’t do no wrong”. Not only can “baby” do wrong but she is often doing it while they say that!
This is the entrance ramp to destruction. How long following this will presumptuous sin take place? How long before “baby” wants her way in everything? And how long before “baby” is uncontrollable because proper correction and discipline was not used to save her soul from presumptuous sin–haughty, arrogant, willful transgression of the Word of truth–all through the tolerance of the aberrant self centered behavior of a corrupt people–parents, relatives, neighbors, teachers, clergy, co-workers, etc? Isn’t that why the antiChrist humanists wanted discipline taken out of schools and they renamed it as wrong and dangerous? The only way the humanist religion can get a foot hold is to destroy Christianity and the correct behavior that it brings!
The church and a Christian nation must resist and oppose tolerance of sin as “normal” or acceptable. To do that the church must once again become the active involved and vibrant church, and speak out against sinful wrong behavior as the watchmen we are called to be, lest we become partakers of their sin by allowing the sin in our presence. We must use our ability to speak out against it or we take on their sin to ourselves and our nation!
“When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.” Psalms 50:18
This verse is saying that adultery begins with the allowance or toleration of theft at an earlier age and time. The adulterer was allowed to “get away with” what was considered as no crime as a youth. This toleration of sin at an earlier age led to the presumptuous sin of adultery. Certainly one has a known duty and knowledge of right versus wrong in committing adultery unless they have been taught or allowed to “get away with” violating God’s Law, which is sin!
“…neither be partaker of other men’s sins…” 1 Timothy 5:22
You become a partaker when you do not speak out against the sin. We must speak up and out against known sin.
“And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.” Matthew 23:30
This verse speaks to the fact that nobody spoke up against the wrong of murdering the prophets. It also speaks to their hypocrisy in not recognizing their own sin. They became partakers of the sin by not speaking against murder.
Ezekiel 33:9 Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
We must speak against Biblically wrong sin to deliver those who commit the wrong and our own selves from the known sin of others. WoW! This is God’s accountability on us, if we know something is Biblically wrong, you better warn the person committing the sin unless you want the same fate and punishment they bring to themselves!
The only way to heal our land and cure the presumptuous sin that rages around us is to lift up a Standard, that is the Word of God and the LORD Jesus himself, and speak up against the wrong behavior, so others can turn to the LORD and from their sinful and evil ways. It’s the way of the LORD and it makes us accountable in our own community for what takes place, and it starts at the earliest age with correcting children and continues to any adult that needs knowledge of the truth of God. That means you better get your own house in order. Speak up! The righteous are bold as a lion!
