The corona virus has has created “stay at home” orders around the United States in an effort to slow or stop the spread the effects on the populous. Thankfully, the virus has not been anywhere near as lethal as was predicted. But, that has not stopped Governor’s across the land from wielding extreme power in declaring “state of emergency” situations in their state.
Many of these governors have proved themselves to be tyrants and dictators when Constitutional limitations were removed. For example, when Michigan Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency she turned out to be a major tyrant. She began by barring grocery stores and retailers from selling vegetable seeds, and even from citizens growing their own food. She also limited access of doctors prescribing lifesaving drugs.
Other governors have also joined in heavy handed tyrannical behavior overly restricting and using more police state tactics to bring conformity to their dictates. Ralph Northam, Governor of Virginia, has continued his tyrannical spring rampage following the legislative session by declaring a state of emergency there in early March and threatening arrest of citizens if found in groups of ten or more.
And other governors have banned the use of life saving drugs. Governors like Nevada Democrat Gov. Steve Sisolak, who banned chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, which has already proved to be very effective against the corona—since 2005!
Now the Hungarian Parliament has passed a bill that gives Prime Minister Viktor Orbán the “power to rule by decree without time limit” during the country’s ongoing coronavirus emergency. This was reported by journalist and political scientist Balazs Csekö.
Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán
It has been described as dictatorial powers by human rights groups and opposition parties. Some described the legislation as similar to the 1933 Enabling Act in Nazi Germany, which gave Hitler power to enact laws without involvement of parliament.
The legislation, passed 137 to 53, suspended parliament for an indefinite period of time during the emergency. The bill prevents any elections or referendums from being held while in force.
The bill also calls for the punishment of journalists writing fake news about the spread of the disease. If convicted it carries up to five years in imprison.
The Parliament granted the Prime Minister unlimited power, and proclaims:
- State of emergency with no time limit
- Rule by decree
- Parliament suspended
- No elections
- Spreading fake news + rumors: up to 5 yrs in prison
- Leaving quarantine: up to 8 yrs in prison
Orbán told opposition MPs in parliament that, “We will solve this crisis without you, even if you do not support this bill.”
Amnesty International criticized the measures, calling them a ‘carte blanche to restrict human rights’ in the country.
