SC State Senate candidate Chris Smith met with The Standard editor Michael Reed at a public meeting to discuss the issues confronting Senate District #26.
The District #26 candidate said that it was important for voters to have a man with new perspective on the issues versus his opponent who has “held the office for forty years”. Smith says a bill preventing abortion is being held up by his opponent in the Senate now.

Smith listed the top issues in his district as: ending abortion, repair of bad roads and bridges, education and opening schools, teacher pay, and stopping wasteful spending.
The candidate said that SC “schools are a disaster”. He continued that “the schools are trying to make tomorrows decisions today, with yesterdays knowledge”. He concluded that “it is paramount to get the schools back open”. He says SC has “thrown good money after bad and we are still 5 or 6 from the bottom”. He said “whatever we’re doing is not working”.
Smith also says that there are many public school teachers who have had their pay held up “school teachers have not had a pay raise in some time”. He said, “it’s time to pay them what they’re worth”.
The Senatorial candidate says his opponent has held office for forty years and will spend a lot of money to hold onto the low paying Senate Seat. He concluded that, “it’s time for change”.
