A lot can happen in a short amount of time.
On January 6th, President Trump rallied supporters in Washington to protest the legitimacy of the 2020 election results. The president specifically called for a peaceful march to the Capitol. A small group of protestors became violent and breached the Capitol. Officer Brian Sicknick and protestor Ashli Babbitt died during the riot. Officers Howard Liebengood and Jeffrey Smith took their own lives in the aftermath. The FBI has since released intelligence that suggests the attack was pre-planned thus confirming it didn’t have anything to do with the President inciting an insurrection. I just wanted to share the occurrence of events before I move into the political part of this writing.

When Speaker Nancy Pelosi decided to impeach President Trump for the events at the Capitol, it was another political game. The left wants the full erasure of President Trump from history, much like the many other important parts of history that the left wants to cancel. The Democrats’ impeachment drive is just an extension of everything else they have done for four years. They mostly supported the months-long riots of town halls, police stations and federal buildings across the country.
When several Republican members of the house and senate signed on to impeachment, it was either a severe lack of judgement on a very important issue or the culmination of their disdain for Trump’s presidency. The attacks over the past four years by politicians are not an attack on President Trump, they are an attack on the idea of President Trump – fighting for the everyday man and calling Washington out for what they are.

The good news is what we can see is another Tea Party movement. It’s not just about support for impeachment or censure of Republicans who supported legitimate elections. It’s about elected officials who do not fight for constitutional values, reigning in spending or are just there to be in the mostly go-along to get-along chorus.
Casting the net is much wider than just Democrats or those who support impeachment. We must have representation that represents the country. So yes, all Democrats need to be defeated, but so should a large chunk of Republicans in their primary elections.
If you are looking for representatives who will fight the Biden administration with everything they’ve got, who will fight big tech monopoly censorship or will fight on a whole host of issues—sending the same crop of Republicans back to Washington will get you nowhere.
Congressman Tom Rice already has a primary opponent due to his vote in favor of the second impeachment of Donald Trump. The South Carolina Republican Party censured Rice in January 2021 for that vote.
The good news is there are already strong challengers in Republican Primaries and there will be more. In South Carolina, Rep. Tom Rice (R – Myrtle Beach) has one Republican opponent thus far in State Rep. William Bailey of Little River and more challengers are lining up. The GOP’s third-ranking member of the house, Liz Cheney of Wyoming, has garnered a Republican challenger who leads her by 33 points in a poll commissioned by Trump pollster John McLaughlin. Other GOP incumbents have gained challengers and there will be plenty more. Local GOP organizations are also censuring lawmakers in an effort to hold them accountable.
I’m working on the assumption that a new movement will have success in the upcoming elections and organization is the key. Also key is paying close attention to what candidates say, and if they’ve held a lower elective office, paying close attention to their record. Get involved with your time and/or finances.
Of equal importance is holding newly-elected “friendlies” accountable. Many of the Republicans elected in the 2010 Tea Party wave became a part of the swamp problem in short order. You cannot just send politicians you support to Washington and assume the best. Hold them accountable on day one.
The next year is going to be a very dark part of American history, but times like this can lead to the greatest rebound in American history. What it’s going to take is the involvement of the people. Join the movement like your life depends on, because it does.
