LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Recently I read an article concerning the non re-appointment of Lillian Boatwright to the Pickens County Elections Board in which she blames Sen. Rice for this action. Let me remind your readers that 979 people signed a petition to have her removed in 2020 when she blatantly proved she could not have self control and gave the public the perception she was clearly biased and partisan, and therefore instilled mistrust in the public eye she could not perform her duties and remain non-biased.
Her blatant disrespect for the duty laid out in her training manual which requires an election board member to “consider perception” was willfully ignored and even after being reprimanded by the Chairman of the Pickens County election board she continued to flaunt her radical activist political views, even to the point of making it clear on all her social media accounts profile page she was, and I quote, a “Radical Social Justice Activist *BLM”
She does not give the perception of being a non-biased or non- partisanship person.
Ms. Boatwright is playing the “victim card” when she is indeed the only one responsible for her predicament. If she had not blatantly made it clear she was aligned with Black Lives Matter movement and Social Justice Activism and her clear disdain for conservatives, she would still be on the Elections Board.
She was clearly warned along with all the other board members by the Chairman of the Pickens County Board of Registration and Elections that, “This county needs our Board to be non-partisan… The South Carolina Elections Commission is clear that they expect us to avoid the appearance of partisanship.”
When Ms. Boatwright ignored this warning and continued posting her Social Justice Activism and alignment to the Black Lives Matter agenda, she alone caused not just “one” person to be alarmed but 979 people who signed the petition asking the Pickens County Legislative Delegation and the Governor to remove her. Sen. Rex Rice WAS NOT using “his power to make a vindictive, petty, and absolutely morainic decision” as she claimed in her latest Facebook post, but rather he was acting on representing the overwhelming majority of his constituency who were not confident in her ability to keep her personal political views from hindering her ability to make sure our elections are secure. Sen. Rice is not playing “stupid games” as she stated. But she is.
Johnnelle Raines,
