Couch potatoes, procrastinators and the rest of us no longer have an excuse for not working out. That is, not after an 82 year old woman beat up an intruder who broke into her home recently.
Willie Murphy was recently awakened after a man beating on her door beckoned her to open the door. “He was outside saying please call an ambulance, I’m sick…”
She said she called police but didn’t allow the man inside. Suddenly she said she heard a loud noise and the man was inside of her home.
Unfortunately for the home intruder he chose the wrong house, and the wrong woman. The 82 year old Rochester, NY woman is not your typical eighty year old. She is an award winning weight lifter who works out at the neighborhood YMCA. In 2018, she won the World Natural Powerlifting Federation Upstate New York Championships.
Murphy said, “I’m alone, I’m old, but guess what? I’m tough” as she showed her bulging biceps to media. She says she can deadlift 225 pounds!
“I grabbed a table and began working on him, and guess what? The table broke!”

She said when he was knocked down she was jumping up and down on top of him. Police and arrived soon thereafter. When the ambulance finally arrived it was not Murphy who needed medical attention.
She said she “really did a number on that man.” Murphy said that once she had him down she grabbed a bottle of shampoo and poured it all over his face. Then, Murphy said, she grabbed a broom and continued to hit him.
Police said the man was intoxicated, but Murphy is not pressing charges against him. Rochester Police tweeted, “Ms. Murphy is tough as nails & fended off the intruder.”
Meanwhile, at the gym she is applauded and has selfies taken with her. One man said “she is the wrong person to mess with.” Another man said “I probably weigh close to twice as much as she does, and I wouldn’t want to tangle with her.” He laughs “don’t mess with Willie” as she gives a wink and a flex.
Willie Murphy just made excuses for not working out much less believable.
