Local real estate entrepreneur and author Melissa Sprouse Browne recently filed to run for Mayor of West Columbia. She determined that she has something to offer the citizens and city of West Columbia and has decided to pursue that service objective.
Melissa is no slouch. She has a long track record of achievement having been named as one of the “Top 20 Under 40 Business Leaders” by The State newspaper as far back as 2009. Additionally, she is a senior care expert and published author. She wrote the book: The Caregiver’s Training Program: What You Need to Know to Take Care of Your Parents In Their Golden Years. She also authored, 755th Field Artillery Battalion: A Unit History; My Best Friend is a Liar: The Real Life Story of a World Class Con Artist, among others. Even more, she’s an experienced radio personality with a live broadcast show called The Senior Smart Show.
Honestly, Melissa is a multi-talented woman who brings a lot to the table for the citizens of West Columbia. And not only that, she takes time to involve herself in official public service meetings in Lexington County where her input and reporting back makes a difference in the lives of everyday folk in Lexington County, and as a candidate for Mayor of West Columbia. That does not even mention her day to day work in helping people in their housing transition as a real estate broker. Frankly, this is a woman on the move who is seeking ways and discovering how to help people daily.
I had opportunity to sit down with Melissa recently. I asked her why she decided to run for the office of Mayor. Melissa said that she is “doing well in real estate” but more important to her is that she doesn’t want to “miss her purpose” in being part of the grander solution of helping people in West Columbia.
She said “I love West Columbia and it matters to me.” She said she realizes she has the skills to help people in West Columbia and that she doesn’t want to miss a chance to help her fellow citizens if she doesn’t even try.
“I want to make a difference for my neighbors and friends”. Browne said that as a real estate broker she is “trained to bring people together.”
She said she wants to “make it easier to do business with the City of West Columbia.” She added “I’ve been involved in so many things, and I’ve worked with others to accomplish a lot,” she said. “I am well-equipped to serve as our city’s next mayor and I am looking forward to the challenge.”
Browne, who has worked with many seniors, has founded several successful small businesses including co-founding The Marketing Division, Seniors First Home Care and Cora Cora. She also manages The Real Estate School of South Carolina and South Carolina Realty.
“Founding and operating small businesses takes day-to-day hard work. That is the kind of mayor I will be. I’ll be working on getting things done every day for the citizens of West Columbia.”
Sprouse Browne formerly served as the Chairman of the West Columbia Beautification Foundation, a position she believes will be an asset in her plans for the city: “My time on the Beautification Foundation really helped me gather vital experience that can help drive economic development.
Sprouse Browne is active in the Republican Party and is putting freedom in the forefront: “We cannot have the freedoms of our citizens be encroached upon.” She emphasized that “many places are returning to COVID-era restrictions, that will not happen again if I am given the honor of being mayor. Our citizens can make their own, well-informed decisions so we can keep our community going and protect our freedoms.”
