Many Americans take freedom and independence for granted, unless you fled from a Communist regime. The lady pictured did just that and is making the most of it. Photo courtesy Lily Tang Williams.com.

Most Americans don’t realize just how good we’ve got it. That is, until you speak with someone who has fled for their life with only their clothes on their back from a tyrannical Communist government. You may have read or heard of those fleeing from China, Cuba, Vietnam, Poland, etc., seeking freedom and a better life.

Chinese refugee Lily Tang Williams fled China and Chinese Communism over 30 years ago for America. She is now a candidate for the US House of representatives from New Hampshire. Williams was recently interviewed by NTD News about the US Supreme Court ruling on Affirmative Action in June.

In the interview, Williams said she hopes the ruling will help people achieve based on merit not on race or skin color. Se said “I think this is  a big victory not just for Asian Americans but for all Americans.” She continued that “we need to go back to the basic values of this country which is personal achievement and excellence.”

Williams said she hopes “Black people will come out in support it publicly instead of trying to stick to the narrative of the left.” She said she thinks it is “so insulting (against Black people) to say they can’t make it (without Affirmative Action).” She added “some of them are very successful… they will strive for excellence like every body else in this country.”

“The American dream is freedom, prosperity and equal protection under the law. So, I think this is a great step to move forward for everybody to live their American dream…” She said that many fled to this country not even able to speak English. Williams said “I’m living American dream, and proving American dream is alive. I have a home business, I’m running for US Congress. Where else can I go… there’s no place I can go in this world to achieve what I have achieved in this great country.”

When asked if she see’s any parallels in the US versus Mao’s China, Williams said, “equity is a communist term. Mao actually used his own affirmative Action which is called Workers-Peasants-Soldiers college.” She said that “you don’t have to have any meritocracy to get into college…” under Mao’s “Red” worker’s class.

She continued the story of how her Dad had to drop out because he was illiterate, and could not do any of the assigned homework. More qualified candidates did go to the school. Affirmative Action based discrimination was used to replace merit with political favor under Mao where both her Dad and those truly qualified were ultimately abused. She added “we should not even talk about equity. We should talk about American excellence and meritocracy, and personal responsibility. That’s the American way to achieve the American dream.”

Williams said, “The Supreme Court’s striking down Affirmative Action is a huge win for all Americans.” She added that “Ultimately, no matter where you come from, what skin color you have, you must work hard to achieve and live the American Dream. There is no shortcut, and it isn’t free.”
