During an interview with the reigning Miss South Carolina for America, Sarah Grace Allen, I discovered her passion for the First Amendment and her recognition of the various attacks on it in this country. I also discovered that she is a vocal proponent who will represent the folks back home well when she lands in Las Vegas.
In fact the 1st Amendment is Sarah’s pageant platform. She has a great love of our freedom of speech based on her personal experiences with others who didn’t appreciate that right so much.
She told this writer that “my platform is First Amendment Primacy.” Sarah added that in her experience as a business owner and her increased involvement in Town of Lexington affairs she sees an ever increased importance in the 1st Amendment.
She said it became clear to her during the Covid crisis that government plays a large role in determining the success or failure of local business. “It was then that I became much more involved in attending and speaking at local civic meetings.” That’s when she discovered the power of her voice at local civic events.
Unfortunately, she discovered independent ideas are not as welcomed if they don’t mimic many elected or governing representatives. Sarah stated there were many who “sought to squelch any debate, discussion, or ideas contrary to their own.”
She said that “acceptance of our differences and allowing our neighbors [and ourselves] to express themselves despite our differences,” is important to her.
Through that experience she discovered that not all in government fully appreciated her speech which may be contrary to their own. “I quickly realized how the free flow of ideas is not universally valued.” She found this was especially so during the Covid lock-downs.
With that lesson under her belt she says she “gained a deeper understanding of why the founding fathers made the First Amendment first.” Sarah stated that “The rise of cancel culture and the demonization of those who hold opposing views presents a constant and direct threat to our basic freedoms, with unfettered speech being first and foremost.” She continued that we only need a “cursory understanding of the history of totalitarian regimes—from Lenin, to Hitler, to Stalin, to Mao—to understand that free speech is the first victim of their reign.”
She commented that “due to my personal experience of being financially and physically threatened merely for using my freedom of speech, I am purposed to vigilantly defend, cherish, and preserve our first American right.”
Sarah says she’s “thankful for this opportunity to have a voice on a bigger stage” in Las Vegas to express her ideas.
We’re hoping she will take her thoughts to protect the 1st Amendment, and all the others, forward to help change America for the better! She will have a big platform to speak up for our speech, and more. Much success and well wishes to this rising star!
