Last year The Standard reported that there is a Muslim Community Patrol (MCP) operating in the New York City area. The MCP have their own patrol cars and are dressed as police, in fact, they are trained by the New York Police Department. The MCP appears to be gaining respectability and power.
Formed as the Muslim Community Patrol & Services (MCP) by Sami Uddin Razi and Noor Rabah. They felt there was a need for such service considering the political climate and the fact that hate crimes have been on the rise across the country. They have national aspirations and said, MCP would be the first community patrol to be entirely based on religious affiliation, saying, “we are Muslim before we are Pakistani or Arab or Bengali.”
The New York Post reported on Christmas Eve last year that “New York’s Muslim community has a new security group watching over it.” The Muslim Community Patrol looks almost identical to the New York Police Department squad cars with “blue horizontal stripes down the sides, a shield on the front driver’s side door and the words “Muslim Community Patrol” descending on the rear door.” They publicly call themselves “MCOPS.”
NYC Police Sergeant Jessica McRorie said “This group is not officially sanctioned by the NYPD and they are subject to the law.” Yet, the MCP is participating in high level security situations in the community in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.
The MCP is not the only civilian patrol group though, the Jewish Hasidic Shomrin and the Asian Safety patrol are also present in their ethnic communities. These groups act in coordination with the NY police department, but that is not the case with the MCP.
Bay Ridge is known as the “heart of Brooklyn’s Arab community” but is still a largely white neighborhood of 80,000. Non-Muslim residents voice concerns over the fact that no other group has cars that look like official police cars and the “Sharia patrols” could take over the districts where they live to enforce Sharia law in their neighborhoods..
The NYPD disavowed any link to the Muslim Community Patrol stating the patrol “doesn’t have the authority to stop and detain people.” The fact that the MCP neglected to coordinate with the NYPD does not instill confidence that they are not religious police. Rabah, was quoted in the BBC calling the MCP “security on steroids.”
But, their presence alone is intimidating to non-Muslims fearing “creeping Sharia.” NYPD Deputy Inspector James Grant said that “any attempts to enforce Sharia (Islamic law) would not be sanctioned by the police.”
One of those high level security situations arose just seven weeks ago when President of Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan, visited New York City to meet with Muslim Community leaders and Muslim Americans. MCP was there to provide support, security and crowd management in coordination with the Secret Service, Turkish Police, NYPD, and others.
In Minnesota a Muslim man began patrolling his neighborhood and confronting anyone in violation of Sharia law and dress codes. Local authorities received reports about Muslim men walking in uniforms that read “Muslim Defense Force” and “Religious Police.”
There is a growing trend in larger Muslim populated cities in America and Europe where Sharia Patrol cars cruise the streets. In East London video reports show Muslim groups usurping UK law and imposing Sharia law on local UK citizens.
Breitbart reports that “Police have revealed that Britain is one of the world’s worst countries for acid attacks, with more than 800 now recorded each year.” In Britain, there are now approximately 15 acid attacks per week with 75% of them taking place in London.
RT news posted a video describing Muslim groups on “Sharia Patrol” imposing “Islamic morals.” The RT video report said “The Sharia Patrol on the streets verbally harass those they consider to be violating Islamic law, such as women wearing short skirts, tight pants, drinking beer, or eating non-halal hot dogs.” Those who practice Sharia also have a history of accepting “honor killings, child brides, and other abuses” which “may directly violate some American or New York City laws.”
