Netflix Fighting Texas Over Child Pornography in Their Movie “Cuties”

Netflix asks federal judge to block prosecution over ‘Cuties’ film

 

Movie producer and distributor Netflix is fighting the State of Texas, led by Tyler County District Attorney Lucas Babin, against the charge of promoting “lewd visual material” in the movie “Cuties”. That “lewd visual material” is known to most people throughout the world as child pornography.

Netflix attorneys filed a complaint March 3rd in federal court stating that prosecution is “without merit, and we stand by the film“. In a 23 page federal complaint Thursday Netflix argued that spreading child pornography through their film “Cuties” would be a violation of the First Amendment right to free speech.

Babin referred to “Cuties” as pornography. “After hearing about the movie ‘Cuties’ and watching it, I knew there was probable cause to believe it was criminal,” said District Attorney Babin in a press release in 2020. “If such material is distributed on a grand scale, isn’t the need to prosecute more, not less?”

Babin and fellow Texan Sen. Ted Cruz, along with 33 other Congressmen, called on the Department of Justice to investigate the movie as pornography.

 

 

Netflix also argued that Babin is “abusing his office” by prosecuting them. Fox Business reported that the complaint said, “This one prosecutor — out of all the prosecutors in America — has indicted Netflix not just once but five times…”

Over 660,000 people signed a “Cancel Netflix subscription” petition on Change.org to have the movie removed from being broadcast and cancel their membership to the subscription service following release of the movie in 2020. The petition site states that Netflix “exploits children and creates a disturbing vibe”.

The petition also says, that they “found many shows and movies on Netflix to have similar inappropriate behaviors as Cuties”. The petition continued that “From cuties to Big Mouth to other movies mocking religions and exploiting children Netflix is no longer the family friendly streaming service.”

 

Sen. Tom Cotton said, Netflix’s ‘Cuties’ is child pornography hiding in plain sight – it is Hollywood exploitation. He went on to say, “the Department of Justice ought to investigate this film to determine whether it can bring charges against Netflix for distributing child pornography.”

Talk show host Nancy Grace said that she watched the movie to understand what it was showing. She said that if she had fully realized what it was, she would not have watched it at all. Netflix has said the movie is about a girl living in an oppressed religious environment who seeks to break out of it. Many have described it as “child pornography”.

Grace continued that “the little girl… finds other girls in a dance troop… what it is is simulated sex. This little girl is just 11 years old.” She said that when she watched the film that “all I could think about was my daughter… The real world plays out a lot different than it does on a movie screen.”

Grace went on to say “I can guarantee you that pedophiles are flying to Netflix like bats out of hell.” She continued that “this type of movie is like pouring gas on the flames of a pedophile, and that turns into… attacks on children.”

A Texas grand jury indicted Netflix in October 2020, for sexual exploitation of children under the age of 18 by featuring “lewd” images.

 

 

Netflix through their lawyers maintains that prohibitions against the movie “Cuties” would violate their rights under the constitution. The complaint against Tyler County District Attorney Lucas Babin seeks to enjoin him from “abusing his office and infringing Netflix, Inc.’s constitutional rights” the company said.

Netflix lawyers argued that Babin’s indictment and prosecution of the lewd movie “comes in retaliation against Netflix’s exercising its First Amendment rights to free speech and to petition the government for redress.”

The movie streaming company argued in its filing that it would suffer “irreparable harm” if it had to defend itself in front of a Texas jury. They claimed the charges were “baseless”.

“The court has jurisdiction over this case and should grant Netflix the preliminary and permanent injunctive relief Netflix needs to vindicate its rights,” the complaint concluded.

Earlier Thursday, IMDB’s film page for “Cuties” described a moment in the film as “lawfully defined as pedophilia.”

One of the parental warnings on the film read, “During one of the many highly sexualized & erotic dance scenes that purposefully exploit & objectify numerous scantily clad under age [sic] girls, one of the female child dancers lifts up her cropped top to fully display her bare breast. This is lawfully defined as pedophilia and can be extremely distressing to many viewers.”

Further, another warning noted, “An 11 year old [sic] girl watches a female rap music video where naked women role play through dance, both heterosexual & lesbian sex acts. An 11 year old [sic] female dance group then mimics these sexual moves on themselves and on each other while the camera zooms in on their sexual body parts as they erotically writher [sic]. This can be highly distressing to many viewers.”

“Female breast nudity of a minor during an erotic dance scene and lengthy & excessive closeup shots of breasts, bums, and spread crotches of scantily clad 11 year old [sic] girls during numerous sexualized dance routines,” another warning added.

 

A September 10th 2020 interview on The Blaze with Glenn Beck talks about the push to normalize pedophilia through movies like “Cuties”:

 

In the interview Beck calls the movie “child porn”. He continued that “the guy who is in charge of diversity at Netflix is the guy who helped write the BLM manifesto: destroy the family, sexual things, including (the New York Times is helping) to normalize pedophilia.” Beck added that “the world is upside down now and everybody is upset…”
