The Dorchester County Republican Party Executive Committee will be asked to vote on a Party resolution this Thursday. The resolution is ultimately directed at the Governor of South Carolina, the State General Assembly, the SC Department of Commerce, and the South Carolina Republican Party for violating the trust of South Carolinians regarding taxation.

Dorchester County Executive Committeeman Joe Cali, stated that he is submitting a resolution for approval at the Dorchester EC meeting because of State misappropriation of State tax money.

He said, “our state government is over-taxing us so they can gamble on business ventures in the hope it will become a boom to our state, instead of reducing our taxes…” He continued that if the EC’s agree “then please attend the DCRP meeting on [August] the 26th and vote to approve the resolution.”

Cali rightly stated in the letter to the Dorchester EC’s that it is “not the business of the government to be in the speculation game. Our Founders/Framers wanted limited government.” Cali noted that “South Carolina has a history of investing our tax dollars in speculative projects that have gone belly up.”

Cali noted some of the various projects that the State has stuck their nose into at the expense of taxpayers and enrichment of those speculators using taxpayer money. Projects such as:

The General Assembly has a history of voting for projects perhaps not well thought out, which benefit their friends and want to be friends. Those projects were checked quite often this past legislative session by members of the Freedom Caucus. Cali noted that “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

Below is the Resolution in it’s entirety:

A RESOLUTION OF THE DORCHESTER COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY

DENOUNCING THE THEFT OF TAXPAYER FUNDS BY THE REPUBLICAN GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND GOVERNOR OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, in 2023 the state of South Carolina had a $1.3 Billion surplus of taxpayer funds, and

Whereas, the State has no money except what it takes from the citizens, and

Whereas, each and every South Carolina citizen was denied a $250.00 refund from that surplus, and

Whereas, South Carolina Republicans know our citizens do better when they have more money in their pocket and are free to do what they want with it … then when the government takes more from them, and,

Whereas, the Republican Party values individual freedom over collective benefit and wants a smaller and more efficient government so our freedom gets increased, and

Whereas, instead of returning the over-taxation to the citizens of South Carolina, the supper majority Republican General Assembly, the Department of Commerce, and the Republican Governor used the $1.3 Billion surplus to form a public/private partnership with Volkswagen Scout Motors, a speculative automobile that stopped production in 1980, and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina has a history of failures, such as the VC Summer Nuclear Power Plant, the Carolina Panther Training Facility, the Viva tire recycling plant, Proterra EV, and other speculative ventures that the State of South Carolina paid for using the over-taxation dollars of its citizens, and

Whereas, the Republican SC General Assembly and Governor ran for office as members of the Republican Party whose platform’s fundamental principles are “Low Taxes” and “Limited, Constitutional Government.”

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Dorchester County Republican Party (DCRP) members denounce the Republican South Carolina General Assembly, and our Republican Governor due to not abiding by the SCGOP fundamental principles of “Low Taxes” and “Limited, Constitutional Government” and not returning to the citizens of this state their over-taxed funds.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the DCRP firmly believes that our citizens do better when they have more money in their pocket and are free to do what they want with it.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the DCRP values individual freedom over collective benefit and wants a smaller and more efficient (limited) Constitutional Government.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be transmitted to each member of the Dorchester County Legislative Delegation, the South Carolina General Assembly, the Governor of South Carolina, the SC Department of Commerce, the South Carolina Republican Party, the Summerville Journal Scene and the Charleston Post and Courier.

The resolution will be presented to the Dorchester Republican Party Executive Committee at their meeting Thursday August 26th. Cali expects the Executive Committee to vote on the measure that night.
