THE STANDARD is celebrating its first anniversary. The newspaper published their first issue in June 2018 and continues gaining wider readership throughout the Midlands area. The paper has a distinct layout and design along with news and opinion that impact the Midlands and South Carolina.
“In an era where many print newspapers are struggling to survive The Standard is not only surviving, but gaining new readers and advertisers,” said Editor Michael Reed.
When asked why this particular newspaper is on the upswing versus many that fail, Reed said, “newspapers are like any other business, there is a relationship between supply and demand. Readers want straight up facts and truth, not the political spin they get in far too many sources.”
Reed continued that “we offer our readers not just another set of eyes on the news, but the only print conservative commentary in the area. This sets us apart from every other news and opinion source.”
“In January we started a Sports Page because of reader inquiries,” offered Reed. “We’ve also had insightful coverage of the political scene.”
Reed attributes much of the success of the paper to his staff who write on topics from real estate and business to local features and opinion. “We’ve got good people writing who have solid integrity and tremendous experience in their field, from daily newspaper experience, to business and finance, to educators and attorneys, to political and ministry backgrounds. We bring experience and balance to the community, and it’s been well received.”
It appears the formula is working. The newspaper may be found throughout Lexington and Richland Counties.
