Gun rights advocates have gathered this week to lobby the state legislature to support current gun rights laws. They plan to stay there until “Lobby Day” next Monday. Tens of thousands of 2nd Amendment supporters will potentially converge on the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond on Monday morning. The firearms advocates will rally at 8am to urge lawmakers there to support the 2nd Amendment and stop the current legislative assault on citizen ability to defend themselves and their families.

The rally is organized by a citizens gun safety group named The Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL). VCDL urges citizens from across the state to attend and let Governor Northam know that the 2nd Amendment guarantees their ownership of firearms to provide safety for their families and from tyrannical government.

The lead banner on the Virginia Citizens Defense League website declares that the 2020 Virginia Legislative Session “represents the greatest threat to gun rights Virginians have faced in modern times!”

That’s a bold statement that is backed up by recently elected Democrats to the Virginia State Legislature spouting harsh statements, foreign to most Americans, about limiting their liberty to exercise a guaranteed right. In fact, Democrat comments remind one of hard left socialist Marxist type statements made by Stalin, Lenin or Chinese Chairman Mao instead of American politicians.

Rep. A. Donald McEachin (D-Va.) said, Gov. Ralph Northam (D) “may have to nationalize the National Guard to enforce the law” when speaking of proposed new gun confiscation laws. He continued, “I don’t know how serious these counties are and how severe the violations of law will be,” when referring to counties exercising their freedom to organize and pass local ordinances and laws about firearms and sanctuary cities and counties.

The Free Republic quoted the Virginia National Guard in a December 14th statement as saying,

“We have received multiple questions regarding proposed legislation for the 2020 General Assembly session and the authority of the Governor of Virginia to employ the Virginia National Guard in a law enforcement role.” The statement continued, “We understand and respect the passion people feel for the U.S. Constitution and 2nd Amendment rights. We will not speculate about the possible use of the Virginia National Guard.”

Northam stated that if the Democrat controlled state legislature pass stricter gun legislation and “law enforcement officers are not enforcing those laws on the books, then there are going to be some consequences.” He continued, “But I’ll cross that bridge if and when we get to it.”

Those type statements come following the election and a reported “bought legislature” by two billionaire businessmen: George Soros and Michael Bloomberg.

Soros has been pouring millions into Virginia politics and scoring big wins this past summer as well as last fall. Soros used his Justice and Public Safety PAC to boost two leftist candidates against incumbents.

Bloomberg group outspent gun groups and the National Rifle Association by roughly 8-to-1 in Virginia in Democrat victories

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg also chipped in big money to bolster Democrat wins. In a November 6, 2019, CNN report titled, How a Bloomberg-funded gun-control group helped turn Virginia blue…

“On Tuesday in Virginia, all three seats flipped from Republican to Democrat — after a $2.5 million spending spree in the state by Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun-control group aligned with billionaire former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The investments made the Bloomberg-affiliated organization the largest outside spender in the elections that saw Democrats take control of the state’s executive and legislative branches for the first time in a generation.

Everytown officials — who provided CNN with details of their Virginia strategy — say their approach to the off-year election demonstrates the potency of the gun-safety message one year before the nation heads to the polls to decide control of Congress and the White House. The spending also underscores how aggressively the deep-pocketed group will pursue its agenda in the months ahead. Everytown outspent the embattled National Rifle Association by roughly 8-to-1 in Virginia, plowing money into the state to target vulnerable Republicans months in advance of Tuesday’s election.

“Gun safety will be one of the defining issues of 2020,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown.”

Over 30 bills initiated by Democrats in an attempt to curtail rights and revoke ownership of guns in Virginia

Gun confiscation and the 2nd Amendment’s “Right to keep and bear arms” is where the conflict comes into play. Hard left positions of organizations like Everytown cut diametrically across the Constitution and the beliefs of most freedom loving Americans. In fact, the Democrats elected in Virginia last November have put forward over 30 bills in an attempt to curtail rights and revoke ownership of guns and firearms, magazines, ability to purchase, transfer or sell, gun ranges, plus lots more infringements and abuses of Constitutionally guaranteed and secured citizen rights.

During the rhetoric spewed forth Virginia’s citizens have paid close attention and organized following their error of not turning out en masse for the off year election. The day following the November ’19 elections Governor Northam announced that “The landscape has changed”. That same day Virginia resident Peter said, “when the confiscations begin in Virginia, you’ll all regret not getting off the couch in 2019 to vote for your rights.”

As of January 16, 2020, Virginia now has 135 sanctuary cities and counties across the state. Meanwhile, Democrats like McEachin are clamoring for the National Guard to enforce Virginia’s State laws to confiscate guns should the constricting laws pass.

Comments by McEachin urging martial law against county and city level jurisdictions who have stated they intend to obey the Constitution prompted the State of West Virginia to call for and pass a legislative concurrent resolution to extend an invitation to those Virginia Counties wishing to secede.

Pictured above is a graphic by The Virginia Citizens Defense League showing counties (in green) that have passed 2nd Amendment sanctuary ordinances and laws protecting and guaranteeing that the 2nd Amendment “right to keep and bear arms will not be infringed” in their jurisdiction.

VCDL makes note that Second Amendment Sanctuaries are “any locality that says it will not enforce any unconstitutional (federal or state) gun laws!” Indeed, there are several Virginia Sheriff’s who have pledged not to enforce any law regarding firearms that are contrary to the Constitution including two who will be speaking at the 2nd Amendment gathering on Monday the 20th.

The SCOTUS has ruled that the sheriff or citizen has no duty to obey, follow or enforce an unconstitutional law in Marbury v. Madison. Many sheriffs have said that they would not enforce unconstitutional gun confiscation  laws. Law enforcement officers do not have to, shouldn’t, and are urged not to enforce any unconstitutional laws.

The US Supreme Court ruled “an act of the legislature repugnant to the constitution is void” as far back as 1803, in the case of Marbury v. Madison, 5 U.S. 137 1803. The Virginia Democrat controlled legislature may find itself in the cross-hairs of the US Constitution if they continue to push for Marxian style gun control.

Those speakers announced for the Second Amendment Day at the Virginia State Capitol on Monday January 20th, include:

  • Stephen Willeford stopped a massacre at a church in Texas
  • Antonia Oakafor trains women college students to be able to protect themselves with a firearm
  • Dick Heller from the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case of DC v. Heller
  • Jan Morgan, National Founder of 2A Women
  • Cam Edwards, Bearing Arms and host of the Cam & Co Youtube channel
  • Jeff Katz, talkshow host on Richmond’s powerhouse radio station WRVA
  • Erich Pratt, Senior Vice-President of Gun Owners of America
  • Sheriff Scott Jenkins of Culpeper County, will deputize thousands if necessary to save their gun rights
  • Sheriff Danny Diggs of York County, pledges to stand against infringements to keep and bear arms
  • Anthony Myers, gun-rights activist from Suffolk
  • Senator Amanda Chase
  • Delegate Nick Freitas
  • Delegate John McGuire

This will be a story to watch unfold as it will involve citizens across the country and the secured rights that the Bill of Rights to the Constitution guarantees. The Bill of Rights started in Virginia with Patrick Henry and the Anti-Federalists long ago, the question is: Will the Bill of Rights end in the Old Dominion or will they be enforced?
