In 2018, self-made businessman John Warren of Greenville went from political unknown to nearly knocking off incumbent Gov. Henry McMaster in the Republican Primary. Now, Warren looks to shape South Carolina government into a more conservative direction with the launch of his newly-formed South Carolina’s Conservative Future Political Action Committee (SCCF PAC.)
In a statement, Warren said “far too often, Republicans get elected to office and then fail to uphold the conservative values they promised to protect. SCCF will work to fix that problem by supporting conservative, courageous, and capable Republicans in order to protect life and liberty, advance economic opportunity, and provide accountability to taxpayers.”
Warren, who rose to the rank of Captain in the US Marines, is the founder of Lima One Capital. Lima One is a mortgage firm that was built into a nationwide giant under Warren’s leadership. He sold his majority share of the company in 2019. Given his substantial wealth and the fundraising mechanism he has put together for the PAC, the group should make a large impression on the election season.
Warren expects to make a big impact on this year’s elections immediately:
“We plan to play a very large role in the November elections at the state and local levels. We currently are in the process of analyzing all South Carolina house and senate races throughout the state. We will be releasing a list of candidates who we are supporting in the coming weeks. “
In fact, based on the alarming events South Carolinians have gone through this year, Warren believes the most immediate thing the organization can do is make conservative change in November’s legislative elections:
“We have had an incredibly difficult year, and the most important thing right now is getting our economy going again. One way South Carolina’s Conservative Future plans to help with that is by making sure conservative, capable, and courageous Republicans are elected to our state legislature.”
SCCF will focus on four main initiatives:
1) Defining, shaping and advocating for key issues and reforms.
2) Empowering conservative grassroots leaders to engage and create true change.
3) Supporting conservative, capable and courageous Republicans through direct electoral engagement for state house and state senate seats. AND
4) Candidate recruitment and training.
In addition to the 41-year old Warren, SCCF will be led by CEO Taylor Hall and Political Director Ryan Gillespie as well as assistance from several political players throughout the state. As McMaster has faced scrutiny during the COVID-19 pandemic, many have clamored for Warren to begin taking steps at a rematch in 2022.
The formation of the PAC not only has the ability to make an imprint on the political landscape in the state, it also allows the married father of three to maintain and build his profile over the next two years.
